Salvation And Sin Are

Incompatible

It should be very clear by now but, if not, let us one more time look at some of the biblical teaching about Christians and sin. Perhaps one of the hardest hitting passages is the following. Hebrews 6:4-6 4  It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,  5  who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age  6  and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. This is clearly about Christians – those who have had their eyes opened, have experienced forgiveness and received the Holy Spirit, who have known the goodness of the scriptures and spiritual power – but have fallen away and need to repent. They crucify Jesus all over again, subjecting Him to public disgrace. The point here, of course, is that one cannot claim to be a Christian and continue to be involved in homosexual sex (or any other sexual sin, or, indeed, any sin.) We should not be fooled by those who claim to be able to do both. 1 John 1:6 If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and we do not live out the truth. It is only as we walk in the light that we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin (v.7). Sin is still a reality that Christians face but the response is to confess it. And God is faithful: He will forgive. 1 John 1:8-9 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess ours sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
