Is Homosexuality Worse Than

Heterosexuality?

In one sense, yes. Homosexual acts are sinful per se. There are no homosexual acts that are not sinful. Heterosexual acts are not sinful per se. In fact, heterosexuality is a very beautiful thing, designed by God and a gift from Him. Having said that, many heterosexual acts are sinful and are just as depraved as homosexual acts. In some of the biblical passages, homosexuality stands alongside other sexual acts that are condemned in exactly the same way. In many cases, the church has failed in this area and homosexuality has been elevated to appear like the worst of all sins. In part, that may be because of people’s abhorrence of it. But it is also the result of the church’s reluctance to address other sins. The church has not spoken out as strongly against sins that are listed alongside homosexuality (see the passages below.) There has been a double-standard. When there have been cases of well-publicised, blatant heterosexual sin within the church, and when the church has even tried to cover up that sin, the reality of a double-standard is only emphasised. People can reasonably expect consistency rather than the prioritising of one sin. The question then becomes: Should the church therefore take a tougher stand on all sin, or should it, to be consistent, be more accepting of homosexuality?
